The Ant and the Grasshopper
One day in late summer, while a grasshopper was playing music and singing, he saw an ant gathering food and carrying it to his nest.
"Why not come and sing with me?" said the grasshopper. "I am busy laying up food for the winter," said the ant, "and recommend you to do the same."
"Why bother worrying about the future? We live in the present," said the grasshopper, "you don't know how to enjoy life."
But the ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When winter came the grasshopper had no food, so he knocked on the ant's door.
When the ant opened the door, the grasshopper said "I am starving. Please borrow me some food."
The ant asked, "Why haven't you stored up enough during the last summer?"
"I didn't have time to store up any food," whined the Grasshopper; "I was so busy playing music that before I knew it the summer was gone."
The ant shrugged its shoulders and said "I hope it was worth it."
Then it closed the door.
